Press release 14.12.2017.

MoneyGram (NASDAQ: MGI) customers in Finland can now transfer and receive money at R-kioski convenience stores across the country. The service allows a MoneyGram customer to initiate a transaction on a mobile device or online and pay for the transaction at any of the 150 R-kioski locations across Finland.

“Thanks to our cooperation with R-kioski, customers can now use our money transfer services at convenient locations, while doing their everyday shopping. The digital staging functionality, offered to MoneyGram customers for the first time in Europe, makes it even easier to send money abroad as the transaction can be prepared at home or elsewhere and paid for in-store,” said Bora Brännström, MoneyGram’s head of Nordics and Baltics. “As 94% of internet users in Finland are smartphone owners, I believe our customers will appreciate the flexibility to transact whenever they want with the digital device of their choice,” added Brännström.

With over 240,000 foreign nationals living in Finland and the increasing demand for reliable money transfer services, MoneyGram and R-kioski plan to expand the number of locations gradually, with approximately 600 live locations by the end of 2018.

“R-kioski makes a customer’s life easier, with almost 30 digital services, from parcel pick-ups and travel tickets to prepaid cards, bill payments and movie or event tickets. MoneyGram’s money transfer service is now an integral and essential part of R-kioski’s wider service offering. The service is easy to use and the in-store customer experience is quick and convenient,” said Sanna Toijonen, Category Manager at R-kioski.

To send money from Finland, customers can visit and complete the send transaction information requested online. Transactions can be completed and paid for within 48 hours of completing the online form at any of the 150 R-kioski locations currently participating.  Until January 31, 2018, MoneyGram is also offering a special, flat transfer fee of €3.50 for all send transactions up to the value of €1,000 (excluding the foreign exchange rate that will be applied).

According to the World Bank, $897 million in remittances flowed out of Finland in 2016 mainly to Sweden ($291 million), Estonia ($86 million), China ($55 million), Thailand ($53 million), Russia ($44 million), Nigeria ($38 million) and India ($24 million).
